more on my blog

It’s that time of year. The short season of the pink pearl apple. Anyone who knows me knows my obsession with apples. I think I get it from my grandfather who has polished off an apple or two since I can remember.

I’m pretty specific about the apples I like. The tarter the better. We have a cooking tree apple in the garden at home and love eating them straight of the branch. In america it’s harder than you would think to get a good tart apple. Cooking apples don’t seem to exist, neither do cox apples, the markets are full of fugis and galas.
The closest i’ve found are pink ladies, granny smiths and the occasional Braeburn…..until one autumn day a few years back when my roommate brought home the ultimate surprise, a box of pink pearls. They are the perfect mix of sour and sweet and have a real bite to them. The most delightful thing is their hot pink insides. Uhhh! I am schmitten with these apples. How I wish their season wasn’t so short.
